Hi all! Got my new girl this weekend and is she ever awesome! Likes to play tug a little bit, not really pushing her. Just kinda hanging out and getting the housebreaking/crate training down right now. Went to the vet to get her check up Saturday and she is almost 9 weeks old, has had her second series of shots already. The vet said she would not be good to go until she is at least 16 weeks old! I know they have to have their rabies shots at that age, etc. but 16 weeks before she can leave the yard??? With my other dogs I was not really too worried about keeping them home but this girl definitely needs a lot more socializing than most. I thought the rule was that they were safe 2 weeks after the 3rd combo shot. This coming Friday is her 3rd shot. Parvo is bad in SoCal, but she should be okay to go to the mountains or someplace where there is not a lot of human/dog foot traffic right? I don't see keeping her in the house for another 7 weeks as a good thing.

Congrats on your new girl!! I am certainly, by no means an expert, but I know that my vet told me to just not take a puppy where they will be around a lot of other dogs...However, I live in an area where there is not a lot of Parvo. I would go with your vets recommendations, you don't want a sick puppy.
