Hi, I wanted to introduce myself, as I'm new to this forum. My name is Sam and I have a 1.5 year old female named Zenzi that I am training for PSA. I also have 2 Malinois and a GSD, I am training them with the help of my boyfriend for French Ring and PSA. I enjoy training my dogs and do it as often as I can. I also have been tracking a little with my Dobe and started my puppies too. I joined the forum because I want to learn as much as I can. I look forward to talking to many of you here and learning a lot! Thanks for reading! Sam

Welcome to the forum!
How do you find working dobermann as opposed to the Gsd and Mali? What are the differences you notice?

Thanks for the responses! @cassie This is a tough question; my pups are all so different in individual ways. My GSD Aada is just six months old, so I’ll keep you posted on how she turns out. She’s already pretty intense with strong drives, so we’ll see. My older Mal (5 years old) Flasch we imported from France this past spring. She had some FR foundation work on her, so I have been working to tune her up to hopefully have her on the field in the spring of next year. She is fun to work and she loves to work. She starts “vibrating” and chattering her teeth when she sees a tug or I take her out of the car at training. She is almost too smart at times anticipating what I'm going to have her do next. I really enjoy working her and can’t wait to get her on the field. My other Mal Bara is only 5 months, so she is just being a puppy and biting the puppy tug for now Now Zenzi my Dobie is energetic to say the least! This dog never tires! She is an absolute blast to work, and it is noticeable how much she loves to work. All the decoys that have worked her have commented that she is really fun to work because she has so much fun. She learns really fast and progressed really quickly from wedge to sleeve to suit. I started working her in protection at 9 months, she’s 3 months shy of 2 years old. I have heard about how my dog will not be successful in protection sports because she’s not a Mal or GSD, or that she won’t bite, and so on, but Zen and I don’t let them bother us. ;D So I have no real noticeable differences between breeds, in my experience it’s all about the individual dog. I will say that when my Dobie is playing outside running with all our (my boyfriend and my) dogs she will outrun any of them any day of the week. She runs circles around them and when they are tired and stop to cool down breathing like they are suffocating, Zenzi is not even breathing heavy and stands over them like she’s thinking “hey, why did you stop?” it’s unbelievable. She’s given me a run for my money, as she is a non-stop, energetic and stubborn girl. @kara Thanks for the welcome! We actually know some of the same people and I met your husband this past fall at the FR nationals in MA. My bf and I went to watch our friend Konnie trial her Mal. I was able to meet Jaguar and chat with Jimmy about Dobies. My GSD and Jaguar played for a bit too. I believe he said that you were working that day I am sure that one of these days I will meet you at a trial or a training day. I've heard great things about Elsa! ApolloThanks! **I'm trying to post some pictures, but it does not seem to be working. I'll keep trying. In the mean time if your bored and looking around online there are pictures of my whole gang on my website (I do not breed Dobies) www.workingdogsnh.com. You will notice my girl had a floppy ear..She has some scar tissue near the tip that has weighed it down. I tried for a year to get it to stand, even had my vet put a stitch under the skin to hold it up, which failed 2 months after the surgery. I finally accepted it and stopped messing with it.
