looking for some knowlegable advice on working lines and breeders in Australia...especially on weyermhule, mooreiche and hundesport. ...but also any other lines that I should be considering. My main criteria apart from temperment (thick nerve) is health and longevity. I want to avoid the four C's as much as I possibly can. My second dobe was a Fosc grandson with a long fuse, and a reliably efficient off switch, aloof, but sociable enough to be super confident and reliable around kids and crowd situations. I'd love to get something like him again. (tall order) hoping you guys here can help me with advice as it's been a long time since I've had to seek out the right pup. (I'm expecting this search to take me years). If I can find the right dog...intention is to work SAR. Cheers

ok 20 + views and silence...I'm obviously not expressing myself appropriately I just recently lost my rescue dobe at 6yrs 3mths to lymphoma after a year long battle with CAH. My previous dobe was almost 11 when he went due to poor recovery following obstruction surgery ...he was otherwise very fit and healthy for his age and had an etremely sound temperment that was probably a bit atypical of the sharpness his breeding(pedigree) might suggest...somehow I'd like to find that perfect balanced dog again and this time have him around for 12+ years. (and yes; I know there are never any garauntees) I'm gaining the impression that weyermhule lines might offer me the best chance of finding that again (combined and balanced with .....? lines ....here is where I'm not sure yet...and yes, I know again, nothing is written in stone and it's all about balance and compromise). I'm probably not looking in the right places...but I'm finding it hard to find causes of death in pedigrees a lot of the time...and also a paucity of health testing results. The possible (future) breedings that I'm researching and trying to evaluate are on heavily linebred lines...and sometimes that linebreeding gets so tight it makes me nervous. Done carefully, I know how valuable tight linebreeding can be....but I'm also cognisant of its risks down the track. So the only way I feel I can confidently (as much as is humanly possible) asses the risks and compromises I'm willing to make/take is to be as educated as I can possibly be on these lines and their risks/strengths. I'm thinking that if I can't find this information in print...then the only way I'm going to work it out is by hearing from people who know these dogs/lines and can guide me in what to look for and what to avoid or be cautious of. I'm really hoping someone can help me with this.

Gday,
So the breeders we have in Australia that do working lines are 1. Schutzdobe - old lines. He has a whole stack of semen stored. 2. Von Forell 3. Von Roth 4. Valley Gem 5. Von Liston 6. Von Hellas
My choice would be Schutzdobe. Extremely dominant hard dobermanns. Not for everyone. They take a very strong handler. Doesn't breed very often and u will be lucky to get a pup.
Heard good things about Von Forell.
Paul from Von Roth is on this forum and I think he has hundesport lines. Valley Gem used Pauls dogs plus a mix of show lines I think.
Don't know much about the other 'Von' Kennels.
I guess you could ring up the breeders and ask what testing they do and ask how long the dogs in the line have lived for.
hope this helps
Jon

Burgstatte presently has a litter on the ground. I would go to him for a working prospect any day. Here's a link to his website. www.burgstaette.de/ Good luck, Melody
