Hi, I am the adoptive mom of a 5 year old male dobe. I train him once weekly in obedience and personal protection. I have been unable to compete with him because he is such an oversized dog (32 inches and a lean 97 pounds) that he does not have the stamina to work for very long. I love my adopted pup, but I would llike to have a dog with the desire and appropriate size to work. As background info, I also have a 4 year old german shorthaired pointer with whom i compete in flyball and in AKC Hunting tests. I am a veterinarian and finding a dog whose parents have all the appropriate health testing is important. I am looking to compete in the Northeast in PSA or Schutzhund, but I don't need a dog of the caliber to compete at the national level. I would like to have a dog with an "off switch" who is not too difficult to live with but who has the energy and desire to work in obedience and PP. I am used to a lot of energy from the shorthair, but I don't want to end up with a dog that can't relax in the evening at home. If anybody could point me in the right direction that would be great. thanks
