Good Afternoon everyone!
So Happy, just got back from the Alberta Cardio clinic and Riker was given a great grade from the cardiologist by colour flow doppler echocardiogram!! Soooo relieved!
It was kinda cool, it looked like spiderman on the ultrasound... the blood flow is shown as red and blue! Can you tell I have a preschool kid? haha.
so now riker has OFA hips good, OFA elbows normal, VWD clear by parentage, 0 VPC's Holter Jan 2011, and normal echo! Now to find a CERF clinic and get blood drawn for his thyroid.

oh, on another note... I asked the vet about the gene mapping that was done by dr meurs... he said the vet community thinks cardio is polygenic.. however he also said they think that it could be upwards of 25 different genes!!!! 25!! Man that was shocking!! And kinda disapointing... I thought it would be 3 or 5.. how do we ever get it out of our breed if it is 25+ genes???

Congrats on the fantastic health testing results!
Yes, I have heard the same about our "cardio problem". It does not seem that a simple DNA test like with vWD will ever help to get it under control. At the moment, I feel like I wasted my money on the Meurs test, but only time will tell.

Thanks for the congrats. I was sooo nervous. A friend of mine has a boxer with the late stages of cardio and her female just dropped dead a couple of weeks ago. Her male had symptoms and was diagnosed and the female showed no signs. It just seems like so many dogs are getting sick, and I am a worry wart!
Now if my dog could just get his long jump issue sorted out, we would be great!
Of course the cardiologist reminded me that 4-8 years are the imperative years to check, so we will go back again next year and keep holtering as well.

Great news! Good health is one of the best Christmas gifts an owner can receive this Christmas.
