I feed strictly raw to two of mine...one has been fed raw since he was weaned and he's 4.5 years old now. My other 3 did not do well on a raw diet , so they eat kibble with fresh green tripe a couple of days a week and their supplements. For the three that eat kibble - 2 do well on Wellness Super 5 Mix. The other one's system does not seem to tolerate any type of grains - so he's on Wellness Core.

Hi
I might be able to add another twist to this discussion on feeding. I have used a natural raw diet with my dogs for 26 years now with fantastic results. Dogs by nature are supposed to eat a raw meat, bone, fur, vegetable matter etc diet this is not ground breaking news ,as they are still designed to eat this way and have been for thousands of years. I started, owned and operated a raw dog food business for years and did a lot of researching , going to seminars, talking to other breeders and experimenting with my own dog's diets to give me plenty of proof that this way of feeding really works , many satisfied customers who's dog's were suffering from all sorts of ailments while being fed processed dog food. The processed dog food industry is huge money now and with all the advertising that they do to convince the consumer that their product is a natural balanced diet still amazes me people fall for this. Some dog's systems just don't deal well with this processed garbage creating heat spots, skin irritations, ear infections and never mind the reproductive problems and lack of fertility that we now see. It's no surprise that since dry food hit our shelves dog's health issues have increased hip dysplasia, cancer, bone deformities, breeding problems etc etc are all on the rise.No single diet is completely balanced and therefore quality supplements need to be added containing vitamins, minerals and amino acids and the type of meats fed also need to be considered. Just feeding beef and saying your dog is fed a raw diet isn't enough as all protein is not balanced!! I have collected frozen semen from dogs that eat processed foods and one example was an eight year old who's semen count came back at a lousy 25% motility post thaw, after speaking to the owner and convincing her to feed the dog differently and use some supplements that I sent her the dogs semen count went up to 60% after 3 months of changing diet, this is no coincidence as I have done this with numerous dog's I have collected over the years. Now people who work their dogs in any performance based sport need to be aware that expecting a dog to perform like an athlete and being fed processed rubbish and not being conditioned correctly is not going to give you the 100% performance you desire, this is a fact!!So think about how much better your dog will perform when fed a diet that allows him to perform, obviously genetics also play a massive part and without both you will struggle.
Food for thought !!!
Paul

Hi,
I have fed raw for about 10 years now. I mainly feed chicken/turkey - but they get a good deal of wild game as well, pork and some beef. I am a scavenger, and whatever I can find they get. I do not purposefully feed veggies or fruit anymore as I found it really didn't make any difference in their health and it was a PITA for me.
I do use supplements...
I use Immunodog, kelp, salmon oil, vit e... and right now Riker gets Imastud as well. They do not get the supplements everyday but probably about 3-4 times a week on a good week and only 1 once a week during hunting season (as they eat more full bones).
They also get the scraps from what we eat and training treats.
The one supplement I do really love for working dogs is K9 Super Fuel. When my dog is worked intensely that stuff is a god send.
I am not anti kibble, this just works for me. I like that i have more control of input into the diet.

I love Blue Ridge Beef. We have a Rep in the area where I live(Steve). He's very nice and helpful. Checking around the area, they also are the best price in town. I use the puppy mix as my dogs main diet. It has beef, chicken, tripe, organ and bone mixed in. I was told it's the closest thing they have to a complete diet. I also add the occasional venison, turkey and rabbit. With your supplemets added to that, you should be good to go. Call for a complete list of products though. They don't even have 25% of their products listed on-line. I'm making my next order as we speak. I can't say enough good things about them. My boss has started feeding his sport dogs the same thing now.

I've been feeding raw for around 2 years or so, on different dogs as I had a Labrador mix previously. I don't supplement, only because I don't find it necessary to. I feed a variety of proteins and raw meaty bones, from whole rabbits, chicken leg quarters, whole raw eggs, raw tuna to sometimes even cooked salmon. Today, I fed a beef heart, chicken liver, a raw egg and two chicken leg quarters.
I feed things like kidneys and livers sparingly, because it is very fatty so I usually give a small amount daily or a decent amount every other day. The same with whole eggs, I only feed two maximum a week.
