Which do you prefer and why?
Do you prefer a different sex for home protection and sport?

Tami,
Good question - especially since, in our house, my daughter and I have different opinions. I much prefer to work the females. I just have trouble getting into the head of a male. DeDe prefers the males to work. We would have to ask her the why of that.
As far as home protection I find them to be about equal.

I prefer to work the males for one very obvious reason - NO HEAT CYCLE! The females tend to go one of two ways when in heat. Either they get softer and squirrley or they get really nasty (the latter being preferred). The males however keep on trudging and we have had no problems with them going off their feed or losing their heads with the females around. I like to 'use' the females for training the males as well. The females always go onto our field first for OB and prot so that the males are taught from the beginning to work thru these senses and instincts. In so far as home protection goes, like Nellie stated, I have found no real difference between the two. They all do their given jobs quite nicely! :-)

I don't really have a preference for which to compete with but for PP I would slightly prefer a male for a little more intimidation and stopping power

Hi,
Thanks for the responses Dede, Nellie and Vadim!
I prefer to work males. I find males have a better sense of humor and when there is conflict, after the fact it is forgotten and done. With my previous bitch, she was a little pouty after conflict. LOL
But when it comes down to it, a good dog is a good dog, and I will happily work either.

Oh, I would totally say I prefer the boys Tami. You know Flair...'nough said I find the girls to be a bit too opinionated. Maybe just my own limited experience, but I think the boys tend to get over stuff quick, where the girls can certainly hold a grudge. I also find the girls very self centered. Me, me, me LOL Tamara Champagne
