With the AKC PAL program set to launch on April 1st they (the AKC) have already made changes to the program. www.akc.org/pdfs/mixedBreed/CPLetter.pdfI will be curious to see what the final rules will be. UKC has allowed mixed breeds for years. The mixed breeds in UKC have full priviledges in the performance events program. Even to the point of participating at the National Premier event. Stay tuned, Nellie

just a clarification - the PAL program was launched awhile ago - it's the rename of their ILP program and its for purebred dogs that are of unknown origin to be registered with the AKC and compete. it remains limited (as far as i can tell) to purebred dogs. the canine partners program is the program for mixed breeds. www.akc.org/mixedbreeds/im very happy to see that we gave up on this separate but equal bull that we were spewing. if i get beat by a good mixed breed dog, i deserve to get beat. in this day and age, showing a dog in anything is a luxury - we complain that obedience is a dying sport, that entries are down - its hard in some areas to build OTCH points, the depth of the classes is poor. and then we want to bring mixed breeds in, but they can't even show with us? we want clubs to hold the classes, but they have to have separate classes, separate ribbons? how many clubs were truly going to go through that, unless they had mixed breeds owned by club members? it was going to be virtually impossible to see them earning mixed breed OTCHs simply due to numbers - and if they deserved one, by all means - LET THEM HAVE ONE! im happy to see that they can now compete on equal footing, and earn equal titles - if the dog standing next to me in the line up deserves to be there, it deserves to be there - i dont care if its a nondescript shep mix or a border collie, the best dog of the day is the best dog of the day.
