In my county's search and rescue, we have talked about billing the stupid people, but not the legitimate searches or rescues. www.newsweek.com/id/227009?GT1=43002The article is about rescuing climbers, but the principle is the same. My group had to go after a guy who intentionally drove his snowmobile off of a 48 ft drop-off while his buddy was filming from below. They were 7 miles from the nearest plowed road, so SAR had to go in and load him up and snowmobile him out to a waiting ambulance. He had to have several facial reconstructive surgeries. The dumbshit.

Wanted to add here that if anyone wishes to join Little River Canine Forums, please do so, we would love to have you over our way too. This is a pretty interesting discussion. Yesterday, in my part of the frozen world, we had another major snow storm. This was predicted 5 days earlier and the news warned us ALL week about it. Yesterday afternoon, we get a call at the sheriffs office that there are two stranded motorists several miles north of town on a gravel road that is known to be VERY treacherous in this weather due to the drifts and steep slopes and dropoffs....... A rancher 3/4 of a mile away decides to take his tractor and try to assist them.....this man has lived here ALL his life and has been through weather like this and KNOWS better..... He gets about a 1/4 of a mile out and gets stuck. Between the two vehicles there in less than a half tank of fuel, ZERO visibility and wind gusts as high as 50 mph.....which means windchills were -20 or so. They are trying to call us, law enforcement, the fire department (also SAR) and maybe the dogs out..... Now, we had been out to see what the travel conditions were earlier that morning and it was dangerous.....less than 1/8 mile visibility, blowing heavy snow and dangerous temps for humans, let alone the dogs.....and the weather got steadily worse all day...... We could not deploy....we could not get through for one, for two, there was no way in hell I was taking my dogs out in it....(the bloodhound is a scent specific trailing dog and there were no trails AND the Dutchie is an airscenter that would have to work into the wind.....and they were shut up in vehicles in freezing and below freezing temps.....I had to make the decision and I stick by it. In the end, the rancher got to them and got them back to his house.....but this is a case of pure, well, "stupidity" in my book.... The two in the car were venturing out because they only had a half a gallon of milk left and they drink a lot of milk...... If it were an emergency, like a missing leg, heart attack or what not, I could see it.....but NOT for a gallon of milk....this is what those three risked their lives for and in turn wanted us to risk ours for...... UGH......I am open for discussion on this if anyone disagrees though....

I can't believe that people have devolved to this level. That's absolutely insane!
