Thanks for posting Elaine, a very good film. Could the petition be made easier for people that do not read German? I was not able to get the translate portion to work.
To me it is tragic that it is such an uphill battle with the DV and IDC to do anything that is not self-serving.
It may be too late but testing as a requirement for breeding animals and the DV allowing Artificial Insemination (breeders could be assured of longevity in stud dogs) would give some hope.

Hi Steve, happy to know you found the film worthwhile! I think we all need to stop blaming and take action - the future of the Dobermann breed rests in our own hands. As puppy buyers, we can refuse to purchase puppies from untested parents; as stud dog owners, we can refuse to breed to untested females; as brood bitch owners, we can refuse to use untested males on our females. Information is our best defense. As this health problem spreads and becomes more well known, responsible breeders who test their stock have become more popular. Older stud dogs who are healthy (tested clear at the time of breeding) are in high demand. Bringing the topic of DCM and cardiac testing into the open can only help all of us and our dogs. The acceptance of AI can/will only occur when all breeding dogs are DNA tested - the DV has already implemented this program in conjunction with the ZTP. Yes, the petition website seems to have a mind of its own sometimes, unfortunately. www.openpetition.de/petition/online/ja-zur-jaehrlichen-herzuntersuchung-der-dobermaennerthe upper right has a language selection drop down menu, but basically you just need to enter your name, city/town, ZIP/PLZ/Postal code, & country. Please, sign the petition and ask others to sign, too. As Dobermann owners, we may have different goals and priorities for our dogs - but one thing we all have in common, is the desire for our dogs to live a long and healthy life.
