another question - what are you all driving these days? Looking into purchasing a new car, and need something that can easily accomodate 2 extra large size crates, for 2 male Dobermanns, with enough storage for active dogsport equiptment (but not a pick-up). Good gas milage a plus Any suggestions other than a mini van?

Almost any SUV can hold 2 crates. Assuming it's just you and your dogs... if you have a family coming with you, you will need to go to a bigger style SUV. I drive a ford explorer and it holds both my dogs fine, but doesn't leave room for the rest of the family. So if I go out of town with the dogs AND the family I have to rent a truck or a big SUV. The newer models are bigger now so they may hold 2 full size crates in the back and still leave room for passengers in the middle. Hope that helped. Take care

My mom has a 2012 GMC Acadia that fits 2 full size crates in the 3rd row with plenty of room for 3 passengers in the backseat. You loose the 3rd row seating and some storage room, but you can fit 5 people plus 2 crated dogs. It's a nice ride, I'm totally jealous My boyfriend drives a Chevy Suburban which fits 2 crates and has plenty of extra room for people and equipment, but the gas mileage is terrible... I drive a Jeep which fits 3 crates and gear, but no passengers in the backseat. Good luck on your search!

98 Ford Escort Station Wagon. A narrow wire crate on the back seat (seat back removed) custom built ($200) 2 dog wooden box in bacj. I carry a male GSD in the wire crate and two dobermanns in the box. Some equipment in a tote on the passenger seat. Still gets close to 30 MPG the way I drive.

Thomas, you are too funny!!!!! Thanks for the replys from everyone. Does anyone know if you can fit 2 big crates in a Honda CRV or Toyota RAV4? or do you need to look at something larger, say a Highlander or Pathfinder? What about those new 'crossovers' like a Murano? Love to hear from any of you car savy types, or what you see others driving at training! Thanks
