I am still working on keeping Cairo back, LOL.
Initially teaching the front position, then back-chaining from there. We have a second line and handler utilizing reverse response reflex, stress if the dog allows itself to get pulled out of position. Remembering that a dog will willingly move from discomfort to comfort and will not willingly move from comfortable to uncomfortable position, they then learn front position is the comfortable safe place. We gradually move back over the course of several sessions and continue to utilize the reverse response reflex with a second handler. Use to be with pinch collar for the stress, now use the e-collar for stress if the dog is not working hard to get to correct position, as well as low-level (below correction threshold) stimulation to increase speed, ne-po-po.

I also start with back chaining by teaching the correct position first and marking that behavior. Then going from a down infrint of me strait into a front... When this is done correctly distance is then added. Now some of the issues dobes have in getting a close front is they rock back into the sit something common in this breed. So it is important when teaching the sit to train the dog when it sits to bring its ass into the front legs instead of rocking onto the back legs. There are many different techniques for this. Good luck!
